Vanners Silk Mill Competition

During university I took part in a Live Brief given to us by Vanners Silk Mill, Sudbury. The brief consisted of two moodboards allowing us to create a project which we felt fitted the brief.

My collection was based around a geometric moodboard, looking at interiors and metallics. As part of the final presentation I also showed my Concealed Elegance collection which was created at the same time.

Both of these projects allowed me to be one of the winners of this live brief where I spent a two-day placement at the Silk Mill. During my placement I had a tour of the factory enlightening me as to how a large weaving mill is run.

I also developed one of my own designs which is photographed to the left, using the software and facilities at the mill. I was then allowed to choose my own colour selection and complete the experience with a metre of my own silk fabric. This was one of the experiences I think has helped influence my progress as a textile designer.
